Paris, everyone is together and forgets for one night about the looming threat of war between the races for a wedding. But no sooner are their vows exchanged than the newlyweds are called upon to serve the Court.

Stateside, an old photograph turns up with a member of the vampire’s Court and several other men linked to an organization called Nightshade Holdings, LLC. More digging reveals how deep Nightshade’s influence extends and just how deeply the Court itself is involved in the plot to start an interspecies war.

Love is found, old friends die and a greater enemy than any thought possible is revealed. It will take everything for the clan and the vampires to stop the war before it is too late.

What was the last book you read that made you cry or laugh out loud?

You know, I have to say my friend Aaron Michael Ritchey’s Long Live the Suicide King was gorgeous. I was laughing in the first few pages and goosebumps throughout. The ending though, it still makes me tear up.

What do you think of current boom in self publishing? What do you think it means for the future of publishing?

I’m torn. On the one hand I love the different types of stories that have been able to come out without the gatekeepers acting as a funnel. I couldn’t tell you the last book I read from a “Big 6” published author. BUT, and this is a huge but, I can’t tell you how many books I’ve read where I think “this was okay but could have been great with some editing”. And I’m not talking about line editing, I’m talking about story development, keeping track of characters, an experienced eye to help guide the author’s story so it’s tight and succinct. If there was a larger funnel, one that helped the industry to keep out dino porn and other such idiocies then I’d feel a lot better about it. As it is, too many great books are being lost amidst the flotsam and jetsam of pure shite muddying the waters.

Do you have a favorite genre to write in? How about the age group? What draws you to it?

I love paranormal, the lack of limits has always drawn me. The “what if” of the unknown or undiscovered just calls to me.

Age group? College through late twenties is my fave. So much is happening and shifting, marriage and kids aren’t necessarily in the mix. The characters can go absolutely anywhere.

How does music affect your writing (if at all)?

Music is the biggest influence in my life! If I need to shift my mood for a scene I pull a song and I’m there in the first few bars. It’s nuts but when I’m settling in to write all I have to do is take a walk with my headphones on and when I come back I’m ready.

About the Author-
HK lives in the frozen hinterlands of the far North.  The long, cold months provide ample opportunity to hunker down with her computer and create adventures far more enticing than scraping ice and getting frostbite.

Between books HK reads voraciously.  Anything with a good plot and compelling characters are her broad parameters.  One is as likely to catch her with a copy of Don Quixote as with the latest Kristen Ashley.

When not writing or wowing the corporate world by day, HK practices martial arts, plays with her dogs and matches wits with her teen. Next winter she intends to brush up on her Spanish and escape the cold for somewhere more tropical.
