And now an Excerpt from Quickbane-
“So, I’ve been thinking,” said Glyn.
“You know I hate it when you do that.” I blinked a sneaky tear away and pressed myself closer to him.

“We can do this, Jessa.”

I sat silent, a million thoughts rushing through my head, a trillion feelings tumbling inside my chest. Aggie’s warning, the centuries-old tradition, Seraphina. How deeply I loved this boy and what would really be the right thing to do.
“We can’t.” I said, surprised at my answer. Truth was, I wished so hard we could. I sniffed his neck. His blond hair tickled my nose. Before I even realized what I was doing, I moved his hair aside and softly kissed him just below his ear. There was an awkward pause as Glyn tried to register what I had said. I was equally stunned, and suddenly wanted to jump off the cliff and fly away on that giant bat.
“Yes we can, Jessa. You know we can.” He kissed the top of my head. It was warm and comforting and it made me want to cry.
“Glyn, everything just got ten times more complicated than it was. Maybe a hundred times worse.”
“What could be more complicated than you leaving for a year, and then only being able to see you a few moons at a time?” He grinned at me, his hand on my cheek, his eyes an endless sea of green, and squeezed my hand, so confident in his love for me, so confident that we could make this sorry arrangement work.
I smiled sadly at him, and squeezed his hand back, and looked away at the horizon, off into the salty abyss below.
“I have to tell you something. Something terrible.” A gust of wind blew sideways, blowing my unruly hair into Glyn’s face.
“What? What is it?” He smoothed my hair and took my face in his hands, his eyes searching mine for a clue.
